SILVER BANDITS POSTER.jpeg

SYNOPSIS (with spoilers)

My comedy caper SILVER BANDITS is an homage to light-hearted heist films like The Sting or Fun with Dick and Jane. In this script, CHARLY, a struggling actress who has lost her job and her apartment, shows up at her grandparents’ house where GRAMPS, an absent-minded 80-year-old with a vaping habit, and GRAM, the sweetest little old lady you’ll ever met—and the most profane—discover they are about to lose the family home due to eighty thousand dollars in medical debt.

Unable to negotiate a payment plan with a collection agency, Charly and Gram decide to rob a bank using stage prop guns (with Charly wearing a gray wig). The robbery goes poorly. They don’t get caught, but they don’t get nearly enough money to pay the debt. They rob a second bank, earning them the nickname “Silver Bandits.” On a third attempt, Gramps has a stroke during the getaway. He’s hospitalized and Gram and Charly are arrested.

Meanwhile, a video of Gram recorded by a bank customer during the third robbery goes viral, garnering nationwide sympathy for our heroes. A judge sentences the Silver Bandits to 14 months house arrest; and, because a friend of Charly’s starts a GoFundMe account for Gram which quickly earns enough to pay the medical debt, they don’t lose their house and are able to “do their time” for their crimes together in their family home.
